Opportunities for Journalists at the Russell Sage Foundation There is a long, rich history of journalists writing and reporting about topics related to the Russell Sage Foundation’s (RSF) mission to “improve the social and living conditions in the United States.” Because journalists report on issues of relevance to RSF, the foundation offers two programs for journalists: The Visiting Journalist Fellowship (2-3 month paid fellowship in residence) and the Social Science Summer Institute for Journalists (3-day summer workshop). Additionally, journalists who are interested in a full-year fellowship to complete a book or other major project that would necessitate a longer stay are eligible to apply to RSF’s Visiting Scholars program. Application Deadlines: For more information about the foundation, our programs, and the application process, please visit our website: www.russellsage.org. Questions can be sent to programs@rsage.org.
Visiting Journalist Fellowship The foundation offers Visiting Journalist Fellowships to provide journalists with the time and resources needed to carry out an original project while interacting with resident visiting scholars who might help inform the development of the project. RSF will pay visiting journalists an honorarium of $8,000 per month for a full-time visit lasting two to three months. Applicants should be journalists with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience who write or report on social, economic, or political conditions in the United States. For more information about the foundation, our programs, and the application process, please visit our website: www.russellsage.org. Questions can be sent to programs@rsage.org.
The Russell Sage Foundation (RSF) will sponsor its third Social Science Summer Institute for Journalists on July 17-19, 2019. The institute, co-organized by Nicholas Lemann (Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism) and Tali Woodward (The Trace), will teach journalists how to locate the best available social science research on their topics quickly, how to identify and interact fruitfully with leading experts, and how to read academic publications for their journalistic relevance. For more information about the foundation, our programs, and the application process, please visit our website: www.russellsage.org. Questions can be sent to sssij@rsage.org.
