This position oversees the graphic design and brand image for a broad range of strategic marketing and communications initiatives for the UAB School of Nursing. This position is responsible for the graphic and digital design output for all marketing and communications initiatives, including ads, magazines/publications, posters, flyers, brochures, animations and other visual communications. Creates charts, graphs, illustrations, and other artwork utilizing advanced design technology to create visual and multimedia presentations. Works collaboratively to identify and create content that aligns and contributes to the strategies and goals of the UAB School of Nursing. To understand the UAB School of Nursing brand and ensure all assets adhere to the University's brand guidelines. To keep abreast of best practices in the field and remain up-to-date on current trends and new technologies. To conceptualize design and layout of finished building art and other displays in the UABSON building and to coordinate final production of finished product to delivery. To work with vendors from start to finish on the purchase of branded items, printing services, etc, for all School departments. This position reports to the Director of Communications for the School of Nursing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and maintains digital and creative content to strengthen the UAB School of Nursing brand to further the awareness, reach and effectiveness of the School's communication and marketing efforts across all digital channels.
2. Develops concepts and creates quality graphic artwork for publications, newsletters, video, web sites, social media, invitations, advertisements, flyers, direct mail, postcards, banners, and other marketing and communications pieces as needed.
3. Conceptualizes design layout of finished art for reproduction and coordinate final production and delivery of finished product for reproduction.
4. Conceptualize, design and oversee installation of UABSON building art, touchscreen displays and other art elements in the UABSON building.
5. Produces accurate and high quality work and ensures appropriate use of copyrighted images, fonts, visuals, etc. to prevent copyright infringement.
6. Illustrates concepts by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts.
7. Prepares final copy/product by marking and routing finished copy and art for review and approval as appropriate.
8. Works with vendors to purchase branded items, printing services, etc., and coordinates with the team's Office Associate to ensure bills related to those services and items are paid.
9. Collaborates with the Communications Director to develop and implement creative policies and procedures for the strategic marketing and communications unit.
10. Works with internal clients to determine visual/graphics needs that meet the integrated marketing and communications strategy of the School. Develops design briefs by gathering information and data to clarify design issues. Thinks creatively to produce new ideas using innovation to redefine a design brief and meet the constraints of cost, time, and client.
11. Maintains vendor relationships to ensure budget and brand are maintained. Oversee day-to-day payment management for creative projects and appropriate unit.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $46,530 - $75,615)
Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, art or related field and two (2) years of related experience required with a minimum of three (3) years of creative marketing experience preferred. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Preferably, work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Exceptional oral communication skills and well as interpersonal skills required. Must be able to demonstrate ability to think strategically and creatively. Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InCopy and InDesign. Expert-level knowledge of Adobe AfterEffects is desired. Mastery of graphic design principles, especially as applied to creating marketing brands, website layouts, magazine production, video production and related visual experiences is required. To be successful in this role, the individual should possess highly developed written and verbal communication skills along with well developed interpersonal skills to be able to interpret client business needs. Strong problem solving, time management, and organizational skills as well as the ability to be innovative and creative are necessary for this role.
