The Associate Editor is responsible for assisting the Director and Editor in all editorial functions of TCU Press from initial development to final copy editing; assisting other TCU Press areas and functions when needed.
1. Develops and edits manuscripts by coordinating with authors to arrive at an optimum balance of scholarship, creativity, and readability; meeting deadlines on all stages of the editing process.
2. Assists the Director and Editor in manuscript development; participates in acquisitions process by reading manuscripts and prospectuses, writing brief critiques, discussing TCU Press needs, and making suggestions.
3. Participates in TCU Press marketing projects by helping to writing press releases and other promotional materials and by generating online content for TCU Press social media sites; participates in planning events; participates in maintaining effective author relations.
4. Participates in staff meetings and other TCU Press functions.
5. Participates in maintaining effective public relations in a variety of capacities to represent TCU Press and to promote its publications.
6. Contributes to the overall health and harmony of the TCU Press by participating and cooperating as a team member and offering input and assistance in all areas of TCU Press functions when necessary.
7. Supports the TCU Press Mission, Objectives, and Code of Conduct.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 2 years of editorial experience.
• Experience working in academic or commercial publishing house.
• Experience editing scholarly and literary manuscripts.
• None

• Knowledge of academic publishing and university presses.
• Knowledge of rhetoric and composition theory and practices
• Knowledge of style manuals, particularly the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Knowledge of book layout and design.
• Knowledge of marketing techniques in publishing.
• Knowledge to troubleshoot and recommend improvements in manuscript development and production.
• Knowledge to train, evaluate, and supervise student workers.
• Knowledge of social media networking.
• Skill in Microsoft Office applications.
• Skill in Microsoft Windows navigation.
• Skill in all components of Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to edit manuscripts, both for developmental and copy editing.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person.
• Ability to draft grammatically correct correspondence.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
