The Johns Hopkins University Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) seeks a part-time Graphic Designer to join the department's marketing and communications team. The position will support a diverse portfolio of initiatives, events, and projects for the BME department's programs and online presence.

The Graphic Designer is inventive and passionate about visual storytelling, industry trends, and design thinking. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, learns quickly, and can handle strategic projects while also executing on quick creative deliverables. In this role, the designer will conceptualize, layout, and create marketing materials and visual assets (presentations, publications, infographics, and more) for print and digital mediums, all while adhering to the Johns Hopkins University brand. The ideal candidate is a fresh and creative thinker who stays up to date on the latest platforms, practices, and standards in digital and social media.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Creatively deploy content across a range of platforms with a focus on building unique, compelling content fully adapted to each platform and within established brand guidelines.
• Utilize Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to design and produce digital and print materials, including brochures, presentations, signage, posters, ads, web, and various other collateral for internal and external use.
• Design/develop templates and campaigns for distribution through MailChimp.
• Manage multiple projects, working within budget and scheduling parameters, ensuring that all materials are of the highest visual and technical quality and meet or exceed BME standards.
• Develop creative mock-ups, assign print specifications, review proofs to ensure quality and design integrity through final printed and online materials.
• Present creative work during informal creative reviews and more formal creative presentations.
• Explain the rationale, process, and methodologies while being able to follow instructions and take constructive design feedback.
• Work with school and University marketing and communications teams to ensure consistent branding.
• Upload and maintain a catalogue of photography, video, and other assets.
• Assist with other assignments as needed.

• Experience using WordPress, digital and design platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Canva).
  
• Time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high graphic design and branding standards.
• Deadline-conscious with the ability to work across a range of projects and mediums in an organized and efficient manner.
• Contributes to a positive team spirit and ability to work collaboratively in-person and virtually.
• An impressive portfolio of work that demonstrates attention to detail, strong concepts, and design skills.
• Typography, layout, creative problem skills and ability to conceptualize a variety of design styles.

• Bachelor's degree in fine arts, graphic design, or related field.
• Two years experience and a portfolio.
• Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro), as well as Microsoft PowerPoint on the MAC OS platform.
